Dersim 1937/38

In 1937/38, the so-called 'Dersim massacres' took place in Turkey. There, the Turkish military used extreme violence against the predominantly Alevi local population. Beginning in 2010, the Dersim Tarih ve Kültür Merkezi (Dersim Culture and History Center) conducted over 400 video interviews with survivors and their descendants. Most of the interviews were conducted in the local language of Kırmancki/Zazaki. The project, generously funded by the German Federal Government's Commissioner for Culture and the Media, will use the unique potential of a selection (100) of these interviews to initiate further research as well as educational and cultural projects. The core of the project is therefore the transcription, translation and gradual publication of the material.
