General Questions

We have answered some of the questions we are frequently asked below. If you have further questions, please contact us by mail (sowi-tutorium@rub.de) or come to our office hours.

What should I do if I moved up from the waiting list?

Come to our office hours or email us (sowi-tutorium@rub.de).

I am a first-semester student, where can I get information about my future studies?

Don't worry, we offer orientation days every semester. There we will give you an overview of your studies and create the timetables together. In any case, there is still time for further questions.

I cannot attend the orientation days. What now?

Come to one of our office hours. Here you will get good and detailed advice and helpful tips.

Help, where is my seminar room?

Floor and room plans are displayed in the GD building in each stairwell.

And what is the system behind the building and room designations?

In general, the following applies: In the north, you enter on level "02". Levels "1", "2", "3", etc. follow upwards. Levels "03" and "04" follow downwards. Due to the slope of the building, level "05" is only available in the south: Simply walk through to the south staircase or take the elevator in the south (rear part of the building).
A room label always consists of three parts: The building name, the level and the room number: GC 03/33, for example, is the room with the number "33" on the first basement floor (level "03") of the building "GC".
The corridors between two buildings have an abbreviation from the names of the respective buildings: If you are looking for the room GBCF 05/607, for example, this means the connecting corridor between the buildings "GB" and "GC" on the third basement level (level "05") with the room number "607".

What is the VPN tunnel?

The VPN tunnel is a program for your computer. It enables you to access many useful documents and content from the internal RUB network at home: For example, full texts from the university library or our materials. If you have problems with the configuration, you can get help from the Network Operation Center (NOC) of the RUB.

What is Moodle?

Moodle is the electronic teaching and learning platform used by RUB to accompany (almost) all courses. Here you will find online courses for your courses. These contain course materials, session dates, announcements and sometimes also additional exercise materials. There are also separate Moodle courses for the introductory lecture and the introductory tutorials. Here you can download the lecture slides after the sessions. We also provide you with materials such as the tutorial reader. In any case, please remember to enroll in the corresponding Moodle course after registering for a course in eCampus. Depending on the course, Moodle courses are often password protected. You will usually receive the password either shortly before the start of the semester by e-mail or in the first lecture/seminar session.

What is the reader?

In the reader, you will find all the course materials for the tutorials, including information on citation methods and creating a cover sheet. There is at least one chapter for each session topic. You can get the reader in the tutorials, via the Moodle course for the introductory lecture or at our tutorial office (GD 03/133).

Can I have access to past exams?

The student council of social science gives you the possibility to copy existing exams.
