Ines Gottschalk

Dr. des. Ines Gottschalk studied social science and sociology at Bielefeld University, Bilgi University Istanbul and Ruhr University Bochum. In her Master's thesis, under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Ludger Pries, she examined changing established-outsider relations in the course of EU-2 immigration to Dortmund's Nordstadt.

Ines Gottschalk then completed her doctorate with a doctoral scholarship from the Cusanuswerk. In her dissertation, under the supervision of Prof. Dr Jürgen Straub, she dealt with questions of relationship formation and identity development in host families for unaccompanied refugees from a micro-sociological and cultural psychological perspective.


From October 2016 to March 2021, she worked as a research assistant with Prof. Dr. Sabrina Zajak, among others, in the QPL-funded project inSTUDIESplus at the Ruhr University Bochum. One of her main topics was social movements, prefigurative politics and the engagement for refugees. Together with Sabrina Zajak, Ines Gottschalk developed the concept of public teaching research and teaches and publishes on public sociology, digitalisation and process-based writing in research-based learning formats. In 2018 she completed training as a writing consultant/writing tutor (150 AE) and in 2020 the qualification programme "Professional Teaching Skills for Higher Education" (200 AE).

Since October 2022, Ines Gottschalk has been the coordinator of the IPU-KKC Graduate Programme "Trauma and Collective Violence: Articulation, Negotiation and Recognition" (January 2023-December 2026) and is conducting research on transformative learning in the context of witnessing.
